A successful 2020 Art-a-Fest is officially in the books!
47th annual Art-a-Fest -- Charles City, IA -- August 15th 2020
This annual event fulfills an important role in the community and surrounding areas by supporting and celebrating local artists. Our goal is to support local artists, and make the arts accessible to all members of our community.
Each year our committee works hard to make the event a success for exhibitors and shoppers. This year, we did things a bit differently in order to protect the health and safety of artists, patrons, and our community:
Participating artists were set up at the Arts Center from August 10th - 15th
Many patrons of the Charles City Arts Center made appointments to view artwork in person from August 10th - 14th.
Shoppers purchased artwork online, through this website, on August 15th from 9am - 3pm, and then picked up their items curbside at the Arts Center.
Island Grill food truck was set up near the Arts Center, and many shoppers stopped to grab lunch after their curbside pickup!
Lots of 'Goody Bags' were given away to kids of all ages, so they could weave their own cute llama, make their own customized slime, and/or decorate the sidewalk in front of the Arts Center with colorful sidewalk chalk.
David Schmitz, Iowa Arts Council Administrator and local CCHS alum, was this year's judge!
Prizes awarded include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, Special Award (in memory of Jean Semelhak), and Honorable Mentions.
We hit a few snags and technical difficulties along the way today, and at times it was a bit crazy! Thankfully we have a wonderful community that was incredibly understanding and patient.
We couldn't have pulled this off without our incredible sponsors, team, and volunteers- thank you all so very much!
