A successful 2022 Art-a-Fest is officially in the books!
49th annual Art-a-Fest -- Charles City, IA -- August 20th

This festival fulfills an important role in the community and surrounding areas by supporting and celebrating local artists. Our goal is to make the arts accessible to all members of our community during this one-day, free event.

Each year our committee works hard to make the event a success for exhibitors and shoppers. This year, 30 artists offering a variety of artwork were set up on the lawns of Central Park. Charles City native David Schmitz was this year's judge, and awarded the following prizes:

  • 1st Place - Mike Hassig

  • 2nd Place - James Kerns

  • 3rd Place - Ruben Ruiz

  • Honorable Mentions - Yoshiko Johnson, Dennis Petersen, Kurt Wedeking, Bruce Litterer, Tracy Ingham

  • Special Award in honor of Jean Semelhack - Ashley Koebrick Schmidt

Participants and shoppers alike enjoyed the sounds of our performing artists James Aissen, Polka Prost, Sam Crosser & Melissa Dorenkamp, and Emily Ann Bauer during Art-a-Fest.

Some local and regional food vendors joined us in Central Park during Art-a-Fest, and the Pub Crawlers served bloody marys and local craft brews. Other vendors offered face painting, balloon creations, and full size spin art fun!

There were all kinds of free games & interactive art activities for everyone to enjoy! sidewalk chalk was available in front of the Arts Center. Volunteers helped kids make marble art, paint rocks, and create spin-art in Central Park.
